Blu3 DAO aims to recruit strong women developers into the Blu3 ecosystem and build viable projects using blockchain technology. The Activate x Wormhole Miami hackathon was not originally on the agenda for the Blu3 DAO team, having recently made history at ETHAmsterdam the team had set their sights on attending ETHNewYork. However, our successes at ETHAmsterdam attracted a new sponsor for the DAO. Introducing Storj - a decentralised cloud storage company that was founded at a hackathon: the 2014 Bitcoin Conference!
Blu3 DAO opened the scholarship process for Activate x Wormhole for a total of 3 days, with 19 open spots for women and non-binary (NB) hackers. More than 50 women/ NB applied, and these 19 spots were filled (less than 40% acceptance rate). The evaluation criteria is a strong application with a focus on womxn developers and project/product managers. In total, Blu3 DAO brought 19 hackers to Activate x Wormhole, plus one of the Blu3 Founders Novell.
Blu3 DAO aims to uplift and mentor women leaders. Hence we draw conference co-leads from DAO contributors, this it was up to the Blu3 DAO Partnerships team to organize the logistics: Daphne Charles and Shantelle Awomoyi. They organized the partnership with Storj, budgeted for and facilitated the scholarship program, coordinated the accommodation and events, and helped the scholars into 4 teams for the Hackathon. The team included Blu3 co-leads and core team that is extremely helpful and supportive to ensure education, support and mentorship for new scholars!
Thank you to our sponsors; Storj for sponsoring our scholars and Harmony Protocol for sponsoring our Hacker House!
